Ossianix is a biotechnology company specialising in the discovery and development of single domain antibody therapeutics in a number of therapeutic areas. 

We currently have a vacancy for a Research Scientist at our facility in the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst, Hertfordshire, UK. 

Duties and responsibilities:

·         Perform functional assays using ELISA, flow cytometry, and cell-based assays

·         Help with antibody discovery and characterisation

·         Assist with protein expression in bacterial and mammalian systems

·         Help purify proteins to the highest standard, including preparing endotoxin-free materials for in vivo studies

Essential skills

·         Candidates must hold a minimum of BSc or preferably MSc degree in a relevant field (biochemistry, biology, biomedical sciences etc.)

·         Must demonstrate significant previous experience (at least 1-2 years), ideally in a drug discovery company, but those with relevant experience in academic research will also be considered

·         Ability to perform in vitro biochemical, and cell-based assays

·         Experience with aseptic techniques for culture and maintenance of cell lines

·         Must be familiar with designing experiments and statistical methods

·         Must ensure the reliability of the generated data

·         Must be able to independently analyse and report data, interpret findings and draw appropriate conclusions

·         Must keep accurate records, write, and present regular progress reports

·         Must be self-motivated and able to work independently within a small dynamic team

·         Must work with initiative, taking on a variety of duties when necessary to meet project deadlines

·         Must have an organised and methodical approach to implementation of experimental procedures

·         Must have a team player mindset and contribute to the success of projects

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills is a must

·         Must be proficient in use of tools for data acquisition, analysis, and presentation

Desirable skills

·         Experience and understanding of therapeutic antibody discovery using phage display

·         Previous experience with characterisation of therapeutic antibodies using various techniques, including ELISA, flow cytometry, western blotting, SPR

·         Previous experience with protein expression and purification

·         Previous experience with immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, tissue sectioning
