Purpose of Role:

The role of the Business Development Transaction Executive (UK South) is to identify and transact projects suitable for Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult core funding or joint collaborative R&D grant awards.  Maintaining relationships between the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult and leading academic institutions to ensure a flow of high quality projects for execution by the Catapult operational teams. The Business Development Transaction Executive will assess the market place to identify needs / gaps and to allow the team to target key technology developers. 

Key Accountabilities:

Build relationships in their territory (UK South) with UK academic, clinical and commercial communities

Build close working relationships with UK Technology Transfer Offices

Identify and close transactions to secure projects suitable for support via Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult core funding or by applying for external collaborative R&D grants e.g. Wellcome Trust, MRC, etc.

Analyse the Cell and Gene Therapy “market” (academic and commercial) to enable targeting of organisations developing new technologies

Experience:

Experience of sales / business development within the life sciences sector

Experience of customer facing key account management

Experience of technology transfer in an academic or innovative environment

Experience of grant supported R&D collaborations

Knowledge / Skills / Competencies:

Currently working, or have recently worked, within life science / therapeutic organisations

Previous experience of being in a global business development, commercial or technology transfer role

Extensive experience in key account and customer relationship management

The intellectual interest and experience to interact with academic clinicians and the commercial healthcare industry

Working knowledge of the UK and European grants e.g. Innovate UK, Wellcome Trust, Horizon 2020

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills.

Accurate with a strong focus on attention to detail.

Keeps up to date with professional knowledge, expertise and best practice

Proven ability to engage constructively with colleagues at all levels across different departments to deliver objectives

Education / Qualifications:

BSc hons in a relevant life science

MSc / PhD / DPhil would be preferred but not necessary
