Purpose of Role:

To further build the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult’s business, reputation and identity within Europe with a specific focus upon Germany and Benelux.

Through effective account management, the Business Development Manager – EU will identify and transact deals to secure fee for service commercial income, joint collaborative R&D grant awards or “in kind” collaborative projects using both collaborator and internal Catapult core funding.  Working closely with the Business Development & Transactions Director this role will develop, refine and implement the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult’s strategy in the European territory. 

Relationships between the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult and companies, leading academic institutions, technology transfer office’s and their spin-out companies will be developed and maintained to ensure a flow of high quality projects for execution by the Catapult operational teams.  The Business Development Manager – EU will map their territory to identify accounts, their needs and technology gaps that can be addressed by the skills and capabilities of the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult.

As part of the business development group the Business Development Manager – EU will participate at regular meetings to provide information and recommendations on strategic business decisions in the territory along with sales forecasts.

Key Accountabilities:

Identify and close transactions to secure projects suitable for support by the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult through fee for service commercial income, external collaborative R&D grants

Build relationships in their territory with commercial and academic communities

Build close working relationships with Technology Transfer Offices in their territory

Map the cell and gene therapy “market” (academic and commercial) to enable targeting of organisations developing new technologies in their territory

Interaction with key stakeholders both internally and externally

Experience:

Experience of Account Management and Customer Relationship Management

Experience of sales/business development within the life sciences sector ideally managing on overseas territory

Demonstrable experience in closing and transacting complex business deals

Working with intellectual property within life science transactions

Experience of technology transfer in an academic or innovative environment

Experience of grant supported R&D collaborations

Ability to strategically plan and implement

Knowledge / Skills / Competencies:

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Good oral communication skills in a continental European language would be an advantage

Currently working, or have recently worked, with life science/therapeutic organisations

Previously held account management, business development, commercial or technology transfer role(s)

The intellectual interest and experience to interact with academic clinicians and the commercial healthcare industry

Excellent organizational skills.

Proven ability to engage constructively with colleagues at all levels across different departments to deliver objectives

Good IT skills

Education / Qualifications:

BSc hons in a relevant life science

MSc/PhD/DPhil within a Life Sciences subject would be preferred but not essential
