Outreach at SBC

Supporting the local community

Work experience

We offer a five-day placement each July for two Year 12 or Year 13 students. The programme provides the opportunity to gain experience with a range of innovative life sciences companies based at Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst.

Places are awarded through a recruitment process. Applicants should submit a CV and covering letter via the below form. The closing date for 2027 applicants is 1 June. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in June 2027.

STEM support

SBC supports Stevenage educational charity STEMpoint, whose aim it is to widen access into science, technology, engineering and maths for all children across East Anglia. We run regular fundraisers including badminton tournaments and themed social events such as our Summer hat party to help raise support and awareness.

Diversity and Inclusion

We run a series of seasonal D&I events from International Women’s Day, LGBTQIA+, neurodiversity awareness, emotional wellbeing and more. Each event circles around the life science workspace and welcomes both those from the industry and the local community, including Students, to gain an insight into the culture at SBC and offer great networking opportunities. For more information see below.

SBC Student Services

We partner with Stevenage Borough Council’s School Outreach team to support local students with interview practise and CV writing skills on a 1-2-1 mentorship basis every month.

SBC also hosts seasonal tours of the Lab Hotel and other spaces at SBC and Q&A sessions with scientists and staff based on the campus. These are arranged on a case-by-case basis and in partnership with local schools and universities.
