Senior Research Scientist - Cell Biology

Emerge Biotech is a start-up company that strives to improve the therapy of cancer by innovation in antibody development. Based at the Stevenage Biomedical Catalyst, UK’s first Open Innovation Center, and co-located on the GlaxoSmithKline campus, the post offers good networking and attractive career development opportunities. We have an opening for an antibody discovery scientist. You will be involved in screening antibody libraries for high quality hits and therapeutic lead antibodies. We are looking for a candidate with an excellent track record in assay development, tissue culture, molecular cloning, and high-content screening. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and for the training of junior scientists.

Location: Stevenage

This job is initially for 12 months. Extension subject to performance

Basic Qualification

  • PhD or equivalent experience
  • An excellent technical and theoretical understanding of one or more areas of advanced cell biology, including hybridoma technology, gene editing and antibody selection
  • Excellent knowledge of and track record in cell-based assays
  • Good practical experience with molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, CRISPR Cas)
  • Hands on experience in tissue culture
  • Experience with cell-based immunoassays, confocal microscopy and ELISAs
  • Ability to understand and prioritize work across complex work streams and to reach goals within set time lines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in antibody selection and high-content screening
  • Strong scientific track record of independently conducted research will be an advantage

Key responsibilities

  • To screen antibody libraries by using high content screening
  • To rigorously analyse data for the selection of antibody leads
  • To select and characterize suitable cell models for screening purposes
  • To genetically modify existing cell lines using gene expression and CRISPR Cas.
  • To generate and curate a gene expression database for a human cell repository
  • To maintain and further develop a state-of-the-art antibody screening laboratory
  • To liaise with members of internal and external contracting teams and technology support groups
  • To report in internal and external meetings with expert groups
